Video Card Outputs

In the last section we reviewed all the possible TV inputs. Now it is time to look at the video card outputs.

Coax - Some video cards with have the standard coax connection to link the card and your TV.

S-Video - For some video cards, the S-Video connection can be used directly connected to the TV with an S-Video cable, or it can be used as a bridge to a different end connection.

In the picture below, you see how ATI uses the S-Video out channel as a bridge. One end is the S-Video and the other end are the Component video connections.

This typ of connection is used when connecting to a high definition TV. #1 shows the special ATI cable. #2 are the card interfaces. #3 are standard RCA cable to make the connections, and #4 are the YPbPr sockets.

VGA - This is the standard connection to a PC monitor.

DVI - Is an alternative way to connect to a PC monitor. Some vendors may also supply a special set of YPbPr cables to allow connection to a HDTV.

Do Some Homework:
Once you decide on the right video card for you, go to the vendor's website and download the manual. That way you can be sure of all the details about the card: including the available connections between the card and the TV.
