Connections Map We have created a Connections Map to help you ensure that the connections between your DVR and TV match, and the connections from your cable box to your DVR also match. Below is a sample of the Map.
The Map shows all the possible video card connections on the left and all the possible TV connections on the right. The TV list is based on a HDTV. A standard TV will have some but not all of the same connections. If you have a standard TV or an HDTV will less connections, cross out the ones that don't apply. You use this Map to connect the video card to the TV with the best performing signal choice. In order of preference, it is Composite Video (YPrPb), then S-Video, then Coax. Using the Map Here is a sample of the of the video card connections
As you can see the list includes several type of connections. If you have decided on a video card and know the possible connections, or have downloaded the manual and can confirm the connections, then you can eliminate the ones that don't apply. The X to Component connections are there in case your card is like the one shown on page C2, where the vendor uses S-Video or DVI to make the HD connection. Lets now take the first step in using the Map, eliminating (cross out) the connections that do not apply.
In this sample case there is no Coax and no DVI connections available on the video card selected. You would do the same for your TV. There is also a section of the map for sound, whether from the video card, sound card or the PC's line out. Once you have eliminated all of the non-existing connection options, you now have a Map you can to use to ensure you can connect everything together. The next step is to take the map and make the connections. Here is a sample.
As you can see, the video card and the TV can connect, so we have a match. Included in the Map are the DVR-Cable Box connections, which you can use the same way as above. Download the Map here, use a right mouse click, and then use Save Target As. The next step is to go to the Putting It Together page.
If you have any questions, you can send them to the DVR-FAQ@how-to-build-it.com. We will not be able to answer individual questions, but we will have questions and answers posted on the FAQ page. |
